Weekly Message 9/24/23

Hello Johnny Appleseed Families!

It was nice to have an “almost” full week of school. I want to thank everyone who was able to attend Open House. It was great to see so many of you. I hope you had an opportunity to see teachers and talk to specialist teachers. Parent Teacher Conferences are in NOVEMBER, so please make sure you reach out to your child(ren)’s teacher to schedule a conference. We are heading into the last week of September. This is hard to believe, but this is the point when we really hit the ground running!

Teachers have been working hard to set routines and expectations. Believe it or not, these strong routines and expectations are a HUGE part of student academic success.

Johnny Appleseed News:

WALK TO SCHOOL DAY: - We will be celebrating Walk to School Day on October 4th. A permission slip has been sent home and it highlights the details of the walk. You must give permission for your child to walk. Parents are welcome to walk with us! The walk will be 1 mile long from Our Lady of the Lake Parish to Johnny Appleseed School.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS - Think about your own child(ren)... We are 16 days into the school year. What is their percentage of attendance? If 100% is your answer, then YAY! Nice work. Sicknesses are out there though. Even my own children have not been feeling great, so I understand, but please send them if they are fever free and able.

PICTURE DAY - NEW DATE - OCTOBER 12th!

DAY STREET: Please remember - NO LEFT TURNS into Day Street Entrance. This causes back-ups, frustration, and “potential” accidents. ALSO, be mindful of blocking driveways and making 15 point turns on the main road. Find SAFE places to turn around and get into line.

PARK AND WALK: This is the FRONT cafeteria option. You MUST park at the church and walk over to the school. You MAY NOT use the staff front parking lot to drop off your children.

School Times: Drop off: 7:45 - 8:15 - after 8:15, your child will be marked Tardy. Dismissal begins at 2:45PM. If you are frequently tardy, please know that your child is missing valuable ELA/Phonics or Math instruction.

Transportation Changes: Please remember that if your child is being dismissed or changing the usual routine in transportation, we need a note for a parent/guardian stating the change and the name(s) of anyone who may be dismissing your child. Your child’s safety is our top priority. Anyone dismissing a child from school must have identification.

PTO News:

October 3rd - PTO Public Meeting in the cafeteria at 6:30 - Please come and hear what is happening with the PTO!

Important Dates: MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

Monday, October 9th - NO SCHOOL

Have a wonderful week ahead!
