Hello Johnny Appleseed Families,

This Sunday message is full of upcoming event information as we roll through the next 4 weeks to February break. Students who have been taking ACCESS Tests will finish up this week. I want to remind families that there is NO SCHOOL for students on Wednesday, January 24th due to staff Professional Development. In the coming weeks, you will start to receive information about our annual Boosterthon Fundraising Event. This year, the students will participate in a Dance Party all while fundraising for a great cause! So far, the Boosterthon events have supported renovations to the cafeteria and stage, school cultural events across grade levels like Crocodile River Music, improvements to our recess equipment, and countless other school improvement needs. Boosterthon has brought our school together with week-long lessons that teach students about ways to be their best selves, all while raising money and having fun at school! Students earn prizes and enjoy morning videos and lunch meetings with the Boosterthon team. At the end of the week, there is a culminating event. This year, we will have a Dance Party! It is sure to be a great success again with your help!

In addition to Boosterthon starting soon, we would also like to announce the return of the Johnny Appleseed Lip Sync Show! If you were a student at JA during the 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s, then you will remember this popular event. A team of teachers has graciously offered to plan, run, and execute this event again. The Lip Sync will be open to prepared 2nd - 5th graders. In order to audition for the Lip Sync, a parent must attend one of 2 parent informational sessions. If you are unable to attend, then your child will not be able to audition. Part of the Lip Sync success is due in part to parental support, so it is essential that any child who wishes to audition must have a parent who can attend the parent informational session. One session will be in person and there will also be a virtual option. Lip Sync forms will be sent home on Monday for students in grades 2 - 5! 

I want to thank Mrs. Bourque-Silva, Mrs. Barnaby, and Mrs. Calderon for offering to teach and run a chess club after school. Sign-ups are closed and as expected, we had many students interested. Unfortunately, there are only so many slots available. As stated in the sign-up, it is a first come first serve opportunity. Letters will go home with students on Friday as to whether or not they will be able to attend. Thank you for your interest in this after school club.

It is essential that students in grades 3, 4, and 5 are present for state mandated testing. 

MCAS Dates: 

April 2, 3 (3rd grade ELA); April 4, 5 (4th grade ELA); April 9, 10 (5th grade ELA) 

May 7, 8 (3rd grade MATH); May 9. 10 (5th grade MATH); May 14, 15 (4th grade MATH)

May 16, 17 (5th grade SCIENCE) 

Attendance: Attendance Matters - please make every effort to have your child come to school. Sickness happens, and we trust you will determine what your child needs. If you need any support with getting your child to school, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Boosterthon 2/7 - 2/16

Boosterthon will be making another comeback this year as our big fundraiser. This year’s boosterthon will be dedicated to the outdoor classroom. We are excited to bring enhancements and improvements that will make the outdoor classroom more accessible and desirable to teacher and student use.
