Johnny Appleseed Elementary

Week of 4/22

Hello Johnny Appleseed Families,

Welcome back after a great week off. It is the homestretch! I am not sure where this year has gone, but for me, it is flying! I hope you were all able to unwind a bit. We are hitting the busy time at school. Many field trips have been planned for all grade levels. We will also have many opportunities for families to come in and see some exciting things that our students have prepared like the 3rd grade Wax Museum and the 4th grade State Fair. Please see the list of upcoming events below and mark your calendars. In order to volunteer for a field trip or field day, you must have an up to date Cori on file. We are happy to check this for you if you are not sure.

Thank you to everyone who donated to the Jim Burns Red Sox Day. We raised over $600. This will be added to the scholarship fund and a lucky senior from LHS will be the recipient! THANK YOU!

Lifetouch will be back on 4/30 for Spring Photos! Plan accordingly.

Grade 5 Dance: Information regarding the 5th grade dance has been sent home. Any child who is attending needs to review the behavior contract and return this with a parent signature. This will serve as a ticket. Students who do not have this contract will not be allowed to attend.

CAFETERIA DROP OFF/PICK UP: It is ESSENTIAL that you park at the church and walk across to the school. If you cannot do this, please utilize Day Street.

Reminders from Nurse Jenny and Nurse Jen: The dental program will be back at JA the week of 4/29 to see students with signed parental consent.

We have seen a huge uptick in nurse visits, which is to be expected with an increase in sickness. Please understand that we will limit visits for loose teeth, chapped lips, and other minor ailments, so our nurse team can attend to more serious needs.Teachers will be trying to assess minor vs. major needs. In the month of March, the nurse’s office saw 1,908 students. We will be starting a newsletter from the Nurse’s Office in an effort to provide information and keep parents informed.

DAY STREET: I have heard from the Chief of Police about a number of complaints from the residents that live on Day Street. Please do not block driveways. Please be mindful of where you may need to turn around to access the line. We appreciate your help with this.

SAVE THE DATES FOR MCAS TESTING:

It is essential that students in grades 3, 4, and 5 are present for state mandated testing.

May 7, 8 (3rd grade MATH); May 9, 10 (5th grade MATH); May 14, 15 (4th grade MATH)

May 16, 17 (5th grade SCIENCE)

INSTAGRAM: If you want to see all the happenings at JA, follow our new instagram page: @JASCHOOL845

Attendance: We are now into the 4th quarter of our school year. Please be mindful that Attendance Matters. Students who miss 18 days in a school year have “chronic absenteeism” which greatly affects their progress and individual academic and social growth. Tardiness has a huge impact on learning as well. Most of our classes begin the day with important phonics and math instruction. If you are having trouble getting to school on time, please reach out to Mrs. Gingras and we can try to find solutions to help you and your child(ren). Currently, our attendance rate has dropped from 94% to 91%.
