Sunday Message - week of May 27

Hello Johnny Appleseed Families,

Happy Memorial Day weekend to all of you. Our Memorial Day show was beautiful on Friday. I am so very proud of our 2nd grade students and staff, as well as Mr. Downey for making this such a special show. Although Memorial Day is about soldiers we have lost while serving, I want to thank all of you who are active military service members or veterans. We are pushing through the last 3 weeks of school. These weeks will be important for wrapping up on skills and assessments. There will be a lot of fun mixed in there as well. Below is a list of important dates for our students as we prepare to wrap up the school year. This week, we will have the LHS Seniors who attended Johnny Appleseed visit us on May 30th! Grade 4 students will attend their canoe trips. Please see the dates below for the specific classes. Hopefully, we will have agreeable weather! Friday, May 31st, 1st Grade students will go to Davis Farmland.

As we get closer to the end of the year, we are seeing a HUGE uptick in student behaviors that require disciplinary action. We have seen an increase in physical altercations, noncompliance, and the use of poor, explicit language. I want to remind you that all behaviors are investigated and our student support team follows a set of protocols to address all students involved. This includes incidents on the bus as well. As summer approaches, there can be an increase of anxiety for students who benefit from the day to day routines and structure that come with the school day. Please be a part of our team and remind your child(ren) to be kind, patient, and to follow school expectations. If they are feeling upset, frustrated, or anxious do not hesitate to reach out to myself, Katie Gingras (AP), Tom Paine and Sheri Riel (guidance counselors), Kaitlyn Wnukowski (school psychologist), Nurse Jenny Allain and Nurse Jen Swaine, and his/her classroom teacher(s). We are all here to help and support your children.

GRADE 5 PARENTS: There will be a Step Up Celebration on Monday, June 17 - 9:30 -10:30. We are asking that only immediate family members attend, so we can comfortably accommodate all 123 students!

From Nurse Jen: The dental restorative team will be at JA on June 12. This is only for students who need restorative work.
