Week of: August 26
Hello JA Families,
We are excited to see students in grades 1 - 5 return to school this week! The first day of school is Wednesday, August 28th. Kindergarten students do not begin until September 3rd. School opens at 7:45AM and dismissal begins at 2:45 PM. It is essential that we have your child's transportation information. THANK YOU to the 400+ families that used the Google Form and completed this online. There is still time to do this before the 1st day of school. Please remember that any transportation changes should be made in writing. The office will not make changes without parental consent. It is also important to always include the names of anyone who is picking up your child and proper identification is needed. Your child's safety is a top priority!
Here is a list of transportation options:
Option 1: PARK and WALK - parents may park at New Life Church and walk to the cafeteria entrance. There is NO PARKING in the JA parking lot during arrivals and dismissals. This is for STAFF PARKING and BUSES ONLY. This will be enforced this year.
Option 2: DROP OFF: You may use the car line drop off on Day Street. Anyone who uses this option should enter Day Street by way of Joslyn Street. DO NOT take a left hand turn into the car line. You must get in the back of the car line and put on your hazards, so traffic is aware you are in the drop off/pick up line.
Option 3: BUS!!! Perhaps the best option is by way of the bus! Bus routes are linked below, so you can find the correct bus route and time of pick up and drop offs.
Option 4: If you live close enough to school, consider walking your child to school!
Please make sure to check numbers as some buses have changed: ie: Boys and Girls Club is now Bus 16, not 2.
What does my student need on the first day of school?
All supplies have been purchased by LPS! Your child should bring a backpack and a refillable water bottle. It is a great idea to label all items in case they end up in lost and found! Breakfast and lunch is FREE for all students. The menu can be found on the LPS/Johnny Appleseed website.
What should my child wear to school?
Massachusetts weather can be tricky! Please dress according to the weather forecast. If the days are hot, the school is also hot! Sneakers are always the best footwear, especially for physical education and recess. We will have a new student handbook coming soon. This will explain more about proper dress wear.
Cell Phones and Watches
We know that many students have cell phones and smart watches. We will ask students to keep those valuables at home or in their school bag, as they are not allowed out during school time. If you need to reach your child for any reason, please call the office. If your child needs to reach you, he/she can also call from the office. The school is not responsible for any lost or stolen items, such as these. Please remember that the bus is still part of the school day. Technology should be stored away. There is no video recording or picture taking of any kind allowed in school. Thank you for following these simple rules.
