Principal's Update 10/20/23
Security at Doyle Field
There have been concerns about student behavior at games at Doyle, so starting tomorrow there will be a few new rules in place for students:
· Students should not bring backpacks to the game and all bags will be subject to search.
· Students will not be allowed to leave the field and reenter.
· All entry to the game has to be through the main gate.
We are also bringing in lights to illuminate the area behind the concession stands and home side bathrooms.
The goal is to make sure that everyone can enjoy the game and have a good time!
Upward Bound
Leominster High School has partnered with the Fitchburg State University Upward Bound Math & Science Program to help prepare students for high school and college success! If having the opportunity to meet new students, attend college visits & field trips throughout the school year, live on-campus at Fitchburg State University for part of the summer, participate in community service, & other activities sounds interesting. Then, you should click the link or scan the QR Code to apply. The Upward Bound Math & Science Program is accepting new student applications from Fitchburg High School in 9th-11th grade.

Guest Speaker
On Thursday, Oct. 26, the Street & Practical Law Speaker Series is hosting Channel 5 WCVB reporter Danae Bucci in the Media Center. As a follow up to the class study of GA v. McMichael et al. (2021) we are looking forward to hearing from Ms. Bucci who was a TV reporter in Atlanta, GA at the time.
Lockdown Drill Feedback
LHS had another drill today in conjunction with Leominster Police and the Office of Emergency Management. Overall the students and staff did an excellent job. No doors were left unsecured.
We will continue to work with the staff on leading students on evacuations and using their initiative to choose the best route. We also practiced our command and control protocols, testing our camera and communication systems and made slight adjustments to our plans.
We will hold another drill in November, planned for the 9th right now, to further practice evacuation routes and other contingencies. I know that these drills can cause anxiety in students but we do them in a way that is intended to build their confidence in case of a real emergency. If you are concerned your student will not be able to make it through a drill, please let me know ASAP so we can make a plan for them, but I highly encourage that you ensure your student participates.

After School Tutoring Center
LHS is again offering drop-in afterschool tutoring from 2:15 to 4:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Students can also be assigned to attend sessions if parents and teachers feel they need to catch up or get extra help. Spanish and/or Portuguese interpreters will also be available on particular days.
School Calendar
The district has a new website that includes a calendar that I have been rapidly filling with info on early release days, days off, report cards and progress report dates. I think it defaults to a list of events, but you can change it to a more traditional calendar by clicking the Graphical View button.
Calling in a student absent
If your student is going to be absent please call the school at 978-534-7715. The absence line is option 1.
If you get an auto-call that your student is marked as absent and you think they are at school, don’t panic. Sometimes they accidentally get marked absent (especially with a sub) and sometimes they do cut class. Call the school and we will confirm they are not here.
Student Dismissals
If you need to dismiss your student you can simply send them to school with a note that they should bring to the office when they get to school. Your student will receive a pass to be dismissed and can just check out at the office when it is time for them to go. You won’t need to come into the school and it is much faster than coming in to dismiss your student.
School Instagram
I’m not great with social media but I do keep an Instagram account with pictures of our students doing great things. It’s at lhsbluedevilnation

The LHS Football Team has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play the Thanksgiving Game at Fenway Park! The game will be played at 6:30 on November 22nd (that’s the night before Thanksgiving).

Ski and Snowboard Club News
Greetings LHS Students and Families from the Ski and Snowboard Club! It's that time of year to get ready for ski and snowboard season and start thinking about SNOW.
LHS ski and snowboard club will begin skiing weekly on January 8th, 2024. We have a google classroom for all communications, the code is evwgpmu. There you'll find a calendar of our dates along with other information. The ski and snowboard club will provide transportation for those that sign up on a first come first serve basis. I need to know if you need transportation before Thanksgiving break (there will be a survey forthcoming on google classroom). This will allow me to arrange all transportation and communicate the plan before Winter Recess because when we return, we head to the mountain! So exciting!
Please direct any and all questions to david.larson@leominsterschools.org and I look forward to getting on the slopes!
You can not purchase a pass with the school's code UNTIL October 18th, 2023
You do not need to be a member of the LHS ski club to take advantage of the discount!!
