LHS Update Nov 17

Principal's Update 11/17/23

School Days Next Week

There will early release days on Monday November 20th and Tuesday November 21st for conferences. Students will be dismissed at 10:45.

There is no school on Wednesday November 22nd, Thursday November 23rd, and Friday November 24th.

If your student needs to be dismissed after 9:30 on Tuesday the 23rd you need to send them in with a note in the morning. We will not be able to find your student among the 1900 in the pep rally!

LHS Musical

Hello everyone! It is time to get your tickets to this year’s musical, The Pajama Game! A 50's classic, this show about a labor dispute at a pajama factory delights with huge dance numbers, colorful costumes and props, and hit musical numbers like Once a Year Day, Steam Heat, and Hernando's Hideaway. There are over 75 LHS, Samoset, and Skyview students involved in this production, and they have been working incredibly hard - please show your support by coming to see the show!

This year, we are excited to announce that we have moved to an online ticket process. The switch to online ticketing a few years ago proved to be more efficient and helped us improve record keeping. Due to the fee structure of the company we are using, tickets will also be cheaper online. The link to purchase tickets online is www.thelhstc.com

The dates for the musical are November 17th at 7:00pm, and November 18th at 2:00pm and 7:00pm in the Leominster High School Auditorium. Single tickets for the musical are available in the following categories:

Lower Orchestra Seating (Choose your seat in the front lower section of the auditorium) - $15

Upper Orchestra Seating (Choose your seat in the upper section of the auditorium)  - $12

*Tickets will all be $5 more if bought in person, and will not be available for purchase until November 15th.

Breakfast for the Bands

The Breakfast for the Bands is an incredible community event presented jointly by the Rotary Clubs of Fitchburg and Leominster. Fitchburg is hosting the Breakfast on Sunday November 19th from 8-11:00am. Both Bands will open the event playing together the Star Spangled Banner and then will alternate playing from there. Leominster will play at 8:30am and then on every half hour thereafter. Do not miss out having a wonderful breakfast and seeing this group perform as they have worked so tirelessly this season and look forward for performing for you!

Tickets for the Breakfast can be purchased from any band member and at the door. Wear your Blue and we hope to see you there.

Toy Drive

The Mayor’s Youth Council is collecting toys for the Leominster Police Department’s Fill a Cruiser Toy Drive. Send in unwrapped new toys to the school. The grade that brings in the most toys gets bonus points in the Winter Carnival in February.

Six LHS students will also be helping at a homeless Thanksgiving Meal next week because our students do a lot of amazing things.

Conferences

Parent teacher conferences will be Monday November 20th from 4 -8 and Tuesday November 21st from 12-4. Teachers will send out an email or send a form home with students to book conferences. There will be interpreters available that night for Spanish and Portuguese. If you require another language, please let me know ASAP.

Blue Devil Spotlights

This week’s Blue Devil Spotlight is on Taylor Crowley and Natalie Brady from the STATE CHAMP Cheer Team.

Reminders:

Bus overcrowding

The overcrowding of buses has become a major thorn in my side and a safety issue as students who are supposed to be walkers decide to jump on a bus and catch a ride. To alleviate this we have put a sticker on ID cards that identify the student as a bus student. If your student rides the bus and either does not have an ID or does not have the sticker on their ID card, have them come to the main office or they may be removed from an overcrowded bus.

After School Tutoring Center

LHS offers drop-in afterschool tutoring from 2:15 to 4:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Students can also be assigned to attend sessions if parents feel they need to catch up or get extra help. Spanish and/or Portuguese interpreters are available on particular days.

Scholarships

Google Classroom is now open with scholarships uploaded! Join the google classroom for scholarships. Check back often as new scholarships will be posted as they become available.

Calling in a student absent

If your student is going to be absent please call the school at 978-534-7715. The absence line is option 1.

If you get an auto-call that your student is marked as absent and you think they are at school, don’t panic. Sometimes they accidentally get marked absent (especially with a sub) and sometimes they do cut class. Call the school and we will confirm they are not here.

Student Dismissals

If you need to dismiss your student you can send them to school with a note to bring to the office when they get to school. Your student will receive a pass to be dismissed and can just check out at the office when it is time for them to go. You won’t need to come into the school and it’s much faster than coming in to dismiss your student.
