Good day, Sky View Family.
This week, your students will attend assemblies to discuss A.L.I.C.E., the safety protocol we use in the event of an armed intruder coming onto school grounds or entering a school building. As with fire drills, we educate and practice the protocol with students in order to prevent mistakes and avoid panic should an actual emergency occur.
We will conduct our A.L.I.C.E. drill on Friday, October 27, during the first period of the day. Before every A.L.I.C.E. drill, we notify families, students and staff ahead of time in an effort to minimize any anxious feelings. During these drills, there will not be anyone in the building playing the role of an unwelcome intruder, but we may have a small police presence on hand to help us grade the school’s performance.
For those looking to review the A.L.I.C.E. protocol with your students in advance of our drill next week, please review the following information: We suggest you preview each video with adults only first, then decide if it is appropriate to watch with your student.
This training video is a bit dated at this point, but it still provides an excellent overview of the A.L.I.C.E. protocol for kids: https://youtu.be/CqkUw9egsWc
You and your student can complete this worksheet as you watch the video together: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bT0SdPnCJgTnaVckZwqMitDK2aCkSecRBM6ieszXrLc/edit?usp=sharing
Another video we shared with our Family in the spring is included here. In this video, they refer to the “ABC Protocol,” instead of A.L.I.C.E., but the message is the same: evacuation is always your goal, but be prepared to lockdown if evacuation is not a safe option.

In the case of an actual emergency, there are different “rally points” for everyone at the school and for families. Possible rally points will be identified as a part of the student assemblies at Sky View. As a matter of public safety and due to the unforeseen nature of an emergency, we do not want to post the location(s) of a student rally point. Since the areas adjacent to the school will be closed down by public safety officials in the event of an actual emergency, families will be directed to a separate location to be reunited with their children. There will be public safety staff on-site to assist families at that time.
Thank you.
