Good Day, Sky View Grade 8 Families.
As we look forward to an early departure tomorrow morning for our DC Trip, as well as the start of Activity Week for those 8th graders staying at Sky View, I wanted to remind everyone about expectations for the upcoming, end of the year, events.
- Tuesday, June 11, 6-8 pm: Grade 8 Dance at Leominster Elks (this is NOT a “prom”...while students do like to dress up, this is not an event to spend hundreds of dollars on!)
- Ticket sales at lunch have ended. However, tickets will be available for purchase in the main office this week, through Friday. Tickets are $10 each and open only to Sky View grade 8 students.
- Wednesday, June 12, 5-7pm: SkySam Bowl (our annual flag football game against Samoset) at Doyle Field.
- Thursday, June 13, 12-2pm: Grade 8 BBQ (this is at Sky View during the school day, so students only…..although we are always looking for parent volunteers to help!).
- Thursday, June 13, 5-6pm: Grade 8 Graduation Parade (annual car parade through the Sky View parking lot - decorate your vehicle to celebrate your “graduate”).
All students are expected to be the responsible and respectful young adults that we have all (school staff and family members) been preparing them to be, right through the final day of school. Students who decide to do differently will face swift consequences up to and including the loss of privileges for the Grade 8 end-of-year festivities (the Grade 8 dance, the Grade 8 BBQ, and other events).
Please also note that any grade 8 student who is in danger of failing a class (or classes) for the year may be held out of the fun activities and assigned any work they still owe their teachers. This will be the last chance for these students to earn passing grades and avoid either Summer School or retention at the same grade level for next year (which means the student stays in middle school for another year instead of moving up to high school with their friends).
None of us want to see any of our students lose their privileges, but we have seen an increase in poor behavior and poor decisions among our grade 8 group recently (several students have already lost the privilege of attending the Grade 8 Dance, for example). Please speak to your students and help us guide them to a successful and fun celebration of their middle school careers.
Thank you.
