Sunday Message - week of 4/1

Sunday Message - week of 4/1

Hello Johnny Appleseed Families,

I hope you enjoyed a nice weekend. Last week, the school enjoyed the 2nd annual JA Lip Sync. It was a nice school community event! Great job to all the students who performed. I want to add a special thank you to all the staff who made this event successful and special.

This will be a busy week for JA 3rd and 4th graders. We are kicking off ELA MCAS on Tuesday. The best way to support your child and prepare is to make sure he/she goes to bed early and eats a nice big breakfast. We will have breakfast here for the students as always. It is also a good idea to pack him/her with a snack for when they are finished. Testing can be long, so being well rested and well fed is essential. The kids have been working hard all year. This is the time we encourage them to show off their skills! Students NEED to arrive at school on time. Testing will begin promptly at 8:30 AM. Late students will not be allowed to start the test, as they need the full testing window. Students who are tardy will need to make up the test on another day.

English Language Arts Dates:

MCAS Dates:

April 2, 3 (3rd grade ELA); April 4, 5 (4th grade ELA); April 9, 10 (5th grade ELA)

Eclipse Info: The solar eclipse is happening on April 8th! I added an amazon link if you are interested in purchasing solar eclipse glasses for your child(ren) or family. This will be the only solar eclipse in the next 20 years! Massachusetts will experience about 90% totality! The eclipse will start as the kids are leaving school. This Thursday, all the students will enjoy the JA Lip Sync show at school. (solar eclipse glasses)

Changes in Transportation: Please remember to send in a written note about any changes in transportation for your child. We will not release a child to anyone without written consent, even if they are listed as an approved contact. If someone different comes to dismiss a child without written permission, you will be called. Again, this is about student safety!

SAVE THE DATES FOR MCAS TESTING:

It is essential that students in grades 3, 4, and 5 are present for state mandated testing.

May 7, 8 (3rd grade MATH); May 9, 10 (5th grade MATH); May 14, 15 (4th grade MATH)

May 16, 17 (5th grade SCIENCE)

INSTAGRAM: If you want to see all the happenings at JA, follow our new instagram page: @JASCHOOL845

Attendance: As quarter 3 starts to wrap up, please be mindful that Attendance Matters. Students who miss 18 days in a school year have “chronic absenteeism” which greatly affects their progress and individual academic and social growth. At this point in the school year, 13 absences is chronic. Also, please note that the COVID guidelines have changed. Students will be able to return to school as soon as they are fever free for 24 hours. If you have questions, please contact the school.
